In 2005, my daughter, Kasey, started playing around with a RED Netherland Dwarf buck, doe, and long-haired ND chestnut doe. After she moved to another job, I kept the F-1 ND/JW cross doe - a broken red chestnut. I kept the doe in production, and was so excited to see Marcia Hinkelmann, White Oak Rabbitry, do the first presentation of RED WOOLYs at Louisville in 2008. Unfortunately, REDs did not pass this time. Committee said to decrease smut and all REDs should have creamy, not white, bellies.
I bought a quad of RED WOOLYs at Louisville
and will work to promote the variety.
NOTE: REDs are great to brighten the faded tan markings in black otters! REDs are great to brighten up chestnuts! The RED rufus gene can be used in blacks, black torts, black otters, and chestnuts. (Keep RED gene away from dilutes).
