Red
Silkie hen - who lays most of the eggs!
We selected Silkies and Frizzles b/c they don't fly. So they stay
off the rabbit cages.
One
of my girls, a Silkie hen, is an unusual silver color. Old rabbit
nestboxes were turned on their ends and nailed along one empty wall
for the girls.
The
chickens eat bugs and spilled feed. They also keep the rabbit manure
stirred up which, in turn, keeps the manure dry and odor free.
This
is the real-live "Little Red Hen."
I love the Frizzle feathers!!
First
chick of 2003!
UPDATE: We now have 12 chicks hatched. Chicks that grow
up to be roosters are sold. We will keep only 4 female chicks.

June,
2003: Oh, no!!!!! More chicks! But look!! Two more silver
chicks! All right! We just learned this silver variety of Silkies
is rare. Hope they are hens.
These
little Frizzle hens were produced by Little
Red Hen, when loaned out to CT Rabbitry in
Alice. Thanks, guys!!
