General Information

The Jersey Wooly was first introduced at the 1984 ARBA Orlando Convention by Bonnie Seeley of New Jersey...hence the name Jersey Wooly. The breed calls for 2-3" wool, mug-shaped head, short ears, and a compact body type. Their top weight is 3-1/2 pounds. Jerseys are broken down into six groups: Agouti, AOV (Any Other Variety), Self, Shaded, and Tan Pattern. Each of group has several color varieties. The Broken varieties moved to their own group January, 2006.

Forteen years ago, when my daughter first started her
4-H rabbit project, all she had were AOV's, which are white with black or blue nose, ears, feet, and tail. They were long and rangy. We ditched those and ordered new stock for Lisa Smith in Michigan. Kasey established a very nice winning herd by the time she left for college. I then raised her SELFs (Ruby-Eyed White, Black), SHADEDs (Siamese Sable), and TANs (Sable Marten, Black Otter, Black Silver Marten).

I later expanded the herd with SELFs (Blue, Lilac, Chocolate), SHADEDs (Sable Point & Tort), and BROKENs (Black, Blue, Siamese Sable, & Tan patterns). In 2005, I took up the AGOUTIs (Chestnuts) to improve the tan pattern color in my blue & black otters.

In 2006, Kasey was intrigued with the RED Netherland Dwarf and thought "why not a RED Jersey Wooly?" She established a small breeding herd and consulted a lot of ND people. In 2007, Kasey moved to Houston and reluctantly gave up the RED project. Marcia Hinkelmann holds the COD for REDs and has outstanding stock.

The REWs are my favorites, developed by my daughter using lines from Lisa Smith and Brian Caudill. There is just something striking about the REWs on the show table! I know what color genes my REWs carry and that's what I stick with. I am a firm believer in mapping the color genetics on my rabbits. Know your stock!!!

Please email me for available rabbits. I breed all year. Our South Texas winters are mild (usual low of 40's). The Jerseys tolerate the South Texas summer heat very well, but I still bring into air-conditioning any pregnant or nursing does, and young juniors during June-October.  I usually like to hold onto Jerseys until they are old juniors or young seniors.

I offer shipping of rabbits from the Corpus Christi, TX airport (1 hr. round trip), using Continental Airlines service for $200.
